Callum McFadzean has become the latest member of Sheffield United's Academy to break on to the international scene after starting for England in their 1-0 win over Wales in the Victory Shield at Yeovil Town.
The 15-year-old caught the eye of selectors during the club's summer Milk Cup campaign which saw him invited to attend an elite training camp at Burton.
McFadzean is the latest in a long line of family members who have looked to make a career in t
he game. Older brothers Jay and Kyle have previously represented United at different levels, the latter making two appearances in the Carling Cup before joining Alfreton, while father John enjoyed a brief spell with Rotherham.
McFadzean said: "I was thrilled to get the call-up. I couldn't believe it. There were some excellent players at the training camp from big clubs, so it's great to be chosen."
Following the game with Wales, England take on Northern Ireland who also expressed an interest in recruiting McFadzean. He said: "I was offered the chance to play for Ireland, but my family connection is too far back to be accepted.
"England has always been my first choice and it is my ultimate ambition to play for the country's senior side."
McFadzean entered Bramall Lane's youth system as a seven-year-old after attending the Tony Dawes Soccer School and being recommended for a trial.
A lifelong United supporter, he is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Kyle Walker, Kyle Naughton, Nick Montgomery, Stephen Quinn and Phil Jagielka who have all progressed through the ranks to establish themselves at first-team level.
He said: "They all proved that it can be possible to break in. Everyone at the Academy knows that the opportunity is there if you show what you can do.
"The facilities and coaches are fantastic. I'm hoping to make that step-up into the first-team squad over the next couple of years."
Mick Tarmey and Travis Binnion are the managers of United's under-16 side and, together with fellow coaches Kevin Fogg and Ron Reid, have helped to influence his development.
Reid said: "Callum's call-up is a fantastic honour and gives everyone a buzz, driving us on to do more.
"It gives coaches the confidence that our Academy programme is of benefit to the players, as the results speak for themselves."
* England's second Victory Shield match is against Northern Ireland on Thursday, 5 November, 7.40pm kick-off. As with every match in this schoolboy competition, it will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
